THE ASPECTS

Aspects are the angular relationship between planets in a horoscope. The main aspects are the
conjunction, opposition, trine, square and sextile. There are several others that may be used, but
the aspects listed here are the most commonly used and are usually allowed the widest orbs.

About orbs: I use orbs up to about 5 degrees for natal interpretation, but there is no hard and fast
rule. They key is to understand that an aspect is strongest when it is exact and gets weaker as the
orb widens.

THE CONJUNCTION is the circle divided by one (0 degrees). Planets that are conjunct each other
tend to act in unison with each other.

THE OPPOSITION is the circle divided by two (180 degrees). Planets that oppose each other
represent irreconcilable differences.

THE TRINE is the circle divided by three (120 degrees) Planets that are trine each other tend to
compliment each other.

THE SQUARE is the circle divided by four (90 degrees). Planets that are square each other exist in a
state of friction. They represent differences that need to be reconciled.

THE SEXTILE is the circle divided by six (60 degrees). Planets that are sextile each other tend to
stimulate each other. Trigger one of them and issues arise in connection with the other.
