Overview The chart of George W. Bush shows tremendous potential if he can live up to the challenges. There is an emphasis on Cancer (healing, compassion), Leo (calling attention to himself) and Libra (creating harmony and balance). When he became president of the United States, the country was polarized and he vowed to bring both sides together (Libra) through an approach he called compassionate conservatism (Cancer). There is also an emphasis on the 1st (personal will and control), 3rd (perceptions of what is really happening) and 12th (surrender to God) houses. George Bush proclaimed himself a born-again Christian and a devout man of prayer (12th) and he won the election due to a high turnout of conservative Christian voters. George W. Bush should have been the right man at the right time. As America was attacked by terrorists and later devastated by hurricane Katrina, a leader was needed who could bring people together (Libra) and heal the nation (Cancer). However, he brought together an inner circle of advisors with biased perceptions (3rd) who would urge him to exercise his will and power (1st) to further their own agendas. The actual incidents (Sept. 11 and Katrina) were not near as damaging as their aftermath. By relying on his own will (1st) and poor advisors (3rd), he has brought the negative elements of the 12th house upon both himself and his country (loss, setbacks, isolation). The Sun in the 12th house/Cancer ruling the 1st house George W. Bush must learn to express his identity (Sun) as a person guided by spirit (12th) who embraces others with love, caring and compassion (Cancer). This will be difficult because he begins life relying on the sheer force of his will (1st). How does he learn to surrender his will and trust spirit to guide him? When guided by his will, Bush will experience setbacks and losses. He will find himself in situations beyond his control. He may even feel isolated, with no one to turn to . . . at least not until he realizes there is a powerful spiritual force ready and willing to take the reigns. The Moon in the 3rd house/Libra ruling the 12th house George W. Bush must learn to experience his emotions (Moon) free of any prejudice, bias or false beliefs (3rd) as he seeks to maintain a state of inner and outer harmony (Libra). To achieve this, he must confront the source of emotional pain (perceptions) rather than seek ways to escape dealing with his problems such as drinking, drugs, denial (12th). Jupiter in the 3rd house/Libra ruling the 5th house George W. Bush must base his expectations for the future (Jupiter) upon clear, unbiased perceptions of what is actually going on around him (3rd) as he seeks to create harmony in his world (Libra). To achieve this, he must base his actions upon achieving an outcome that is good for all rather seeking an outcome that makes him the center of attention (5th). The Moon conjunct Jupiter When two planets are conjunct, their challenges become intertwined. In this case, his emotions (Moon) are intertwined with his beliefs regarding the future (Jupiter). With both planets in the 3rd house, there are serious issues regarding his perceptions and the people who influence his perceptions (3rd). It is likely he is influenced by people who have a distorted view of how things are and how future events are likely to unfold. It is likely that he experiences emotional pain when things don't turn out as expected. Leo Ascendant Leo represents behavior intended to call attention to oneself. When George W. Bush expresses himself to others, he wants reassurance that he is the focus of their attention. Mercury in 1st house/Leo ruling the 11th house George W. Bush must learn to effectively communicate (Mercury) his will (1st) in a manner that brings positive recognition (Leo). This will be quite challenging because he will often find resistance from potential allies who can help him achieve his objectives (11th). Bush must learn the art of compromise and persuasion. Pluto in 1st house/Leo co-ruling the 4th house Pluto in Leo is the generation we call the "baby boomers." They share the common affliction of feeling insignificant or ignored. Pluto manifests on a personal level according to the houses involved. With Pluto in his 1st house, Bush suffered psychological wounds during childhood that made him feel his plans or goals were insignificant. With Pluto co-ruling his 4th house, his wound is most likely related to something he must keep secret or maybe an embarrassing secret or activity that was exposed. Pluto also points the way to transformation. Once the psychological wounds are healed, he can transcend the needs of his own ego and take up a cause that will benefit society. Mercury and Pluto conjunct the Ascendant The Ascendant becomes far more complex after the conjunctions are factored into the mix. A Leo Ascendant brings a desire to be noticed. Pluto conjunct the Ascendant indicates a deep psychological fear that he will be ignored or not taken seriously when he expresses his will. Mercury ruling the 11th suggests that potential allies may even resist his will. When George W. Bush looks into the mirror of his Ascendant, he his likely to perceive that he is being ignored, not taken seriously or even opposed. The Primal Triad The Sun, Moon and Ascendant are the most powerful points in a person's chart. They work together in a manner that I call the primal triad. The Sun is the ego expressing itself. The Ascendant is the ego perceiving how others have responded. The Moon is the emotions that arise from that response. The Moon then signals the Sun to modify its expression in order to get the desired emotional response. The aspects between these three points are much stronger in the chart of George W. Bush than in most charts. His Sun rules his Ascendant/Mercury/Pluto conjunction. His Moon rules his Sun. His Moon/Jupiter conjunction is square his Sun. There is a serious tug-of-war taking place between the most powerful points in his chart! The Sun, Leo and 5th house (ruled by Jupiter) are different facets of ego. There is an unusually strong need for self expression, attention and recognition. The Ascendant/ Mercury/Pluto conjunction indicates he does not always perceive that he is receiving proper attention or recognition. The first house represents the will. There is a strong urge to express his will as there are three planets in his first house and the Sun is ruling his first house. This urge is often met with resistance from others or brings disastrous consequences. Also, it is his destiny to learn how to surrender his will and let spirit be his guide. Three third house planets indicate issues regarding his perceptions of what is going on around him, and with Jupiter in the mix, his expectations for the future. The square between his Sun and Moon/Jupiter conjunction indicate severe tension created by expressing himself and his will in response to distorted perceptions. When Bush takes the high road, he can be a healer (Cancer), leading people on a spiritual path through difficult times (12th) by sharing clear, honest perceptions of the issues at hand (3rd) and displaying a true spirit of caring and compassion (Cancer). When Bush takes the low road, he is ruled by emotions (Moon) that are fueled by loss, setbacks, isolation (12th) and distorted by bias, false information (3rd) and unrealistic expectations (Jupiter). As he tries to dig his way out of difficulties through the sheer force of his will (1st) he only digs himself deeper into them. Venus in the 1st house/Leo ruling the 4th house This position of Venus suggests that George W. Bush must learn to seek relationships (Venus) with people who share his goals (1st) and provide positive reinforcement (Leo). However, there are 4th house issues to overcome. As relationships must be based upon trust, so there can be no hidden agendas or covert activities (4th). Although the 4th can represent a private haven where one finds support, Bush must avoid creating a support system of "yes men" who cannot maintain their objectivity (4th). Mars in the 2nd house/Virgo ruling the 10th house George W. Bush must learn to effectively assert his will (Mars) based upon confidence in himself and his inner resources (2nd). This is accomplished by continuous efforts to strengthen his weaknesses and fully develop his talents and abilities (Virgo). He must overcome issues related to his role or social status (10th). Being born into wealth, power and privilege, he may feel overwhelmed by what is expected of him (insecure). There is also the possibility he takes his station for granted and does not feel there is much need for self-improvement. Saturn in the 12th house/Cancer ruling the 6th house George W. Bush wants to fulfill his role in a manner that meets the expectations and earns the approval (Saturn) of his higher power (12th) by dutifully serving others with a spirit of love and compassion (Cancer). However, .Bush cannot fulfill his 12th house role until he can find joy in serving others (6th). Saturn, often called the teacher, supports the lesson of his Sun. When Bush resists those in authority, when his focus is on his will and drawing attention to himself, he will encounter setbacks and losses. Bush must acquire the discipline and humility that will enable him to submit to a higher spiritual authority and accept that his role is to serve others in a loving, compassionate manner. That does not mean he should not lead. It means he should lead with a goal of serving those whom he leads. Uranus in the 11th house/Gemini ruling the 7th house George W. Bush must stand firm for his principles (Uranus) even when it puts him at odds with the people/authorities who can best help him fulfill his goals (11th). He wins them over by gathering and sharing information (Gemini) that will help resolve their differences. Bush will have difficulty seeing himself through the eyes of his rivals or enemies (7th). Before he can learn to turn opponents into allies, he must overcome a self-centered "my way or the highway" approach. Neptune in the 3rd house/Libra ruling the 8th and 9th houses George W. Bush must learn to listen to his inner voice (Neptune) in order to gain clarity regarding the issues at hand (3rd) and create harmony where it is needed (Libra). But there appears to be fear that doing so will cost him the support and approval of those closest to him, maybe even his God (8th). There is also the issue of a very narrow and limiting world view (9th) and perhaps an unwillingness to accept change until it is forced upon him (9th). |
